COMPOSER FOR VISUAL MEDIA
TRAIN WITH PAUL
I am a certified personal trainer (ISSA) located in Burbank, CA! My main job is a composer for film and TV, and have developed a passion for health and fitness after getting tired of the sedentary lifestyle that comes with working in a studio. In the process, I have also developed a love (obsession) for the outdoors, and have become an avid hiker and trail/ultrarunner!! I am EXCITED to help you get into shape, and meet your fitness goals!!
MY STORY AND MY PROGRAMS
Pre-Pandemic Paul. My life was glued to social media more than I care to admit. At the time, I hadn't stepped on a scale since 2010, because I was scared of what I’d see. Instead, I just half assed my workouts , and relied on the mirror, which did little. I avoided looking in the mirror shirtless for years because I didn’t want to horrify myself.
I told myself that it was normal to be a little overweight, especially because I was living my dream of working as a full-time composer and pulling long hours in the studio. I told myself that I could turn things around, AFTER I got my career to a certain level. But there were signs. Red flashing alarms.
Health-wise, I developed severe acid reflux, to the point where my throat tightened up when I’d eat red meat or tomato sauce. It sucked cause spaghetti and meat sauce was, and still is, my favorite dish ever. That didn’t stop me from indulging in pasta for all three daily meals, which led to digestive issues, as well as gallstones.
I knew on some level that I wasn’t healthy. I was headed downhill. So I started hiking a few days a week to move my body. I lied to myself that it would be enough to turn things around, meanwhile I’d still spend long hours sitting in the studio and eating garbage.
The wakeup call came in April 2021 when my roommate coaxed me on the scale for the first time. We were both shocked at the number. At this point the data couldn’t be denied: I was dangerously unhealthy, and headed for life-threatening medical issues within a decade if I didn’t take drastic action.
Ok - time for a change. I took a radical approach at first, getting up at 4am, hitting the gym 5x a week, and running for 30 minutes a day. It worked - to a point. But I was exhausted.
I was still working full-time as a composer to build my career, and balancing gig work to make ends meet. I needed to be fresh and alert to write my best music. Being a gym rat wasn’t sustainable.
Then the lightbulb hit me, that it was indeed possible to get in shape - and STAY that way - without sacrificing my music career.
I’ve since been able to lose 30lbs, and keep it off, AND maintain a healthy diet, all while writing music full-time.
I can’t even begin to describe how much my life has changed. You can see it in the photo: I’ve traded pudgy and bloated for lean muscle. But more importantly, I FEEL better, I’ve got more energy to write, and I swear the quality of my music has improved.
That’s because fitness is not an overnight miracle, but a lifestyle shift. Once I found a pathway that worked with my composing career, I was able to transform myself into a healthy person. And once I was able to create healthy patterns of behavior - not one-offs, but HABITS - they stuck.
That’s why I decided to take my personal fitness transformation and offer it to the world. I became a certified personal trainer.
